A New Warm, Safe, and Secure Home for the Homeless in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

It's been 10 years since the inception of the newest homeless emergency shelter: the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House, a place where the homeless can start the road back to a more stable, long-term way of living.

Fulfilling a Need

It became desperately apparent in the winter of 2013-2014 that Sioux Falls was in need of another solution for a homeless emergency shelter. It was Bishop Swain and the Catholic Diocese who was called to fulfill this need. Less than a year of the public announcement, the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House opened in January 2015.

The Community Impact

The Bishop Dudley Hospitality House has far exceeded expectations. In 2022 alone, it has served 1,720 unique individuals, 45 families, and 112 children. This has exceeded the most current statistics indicating that more than 1,000 individuals in South Dakota are without a home.

Located in downtown Sioux Falls, the facility is within walking distance of several other agencies that provide programs for the needy, supporting the proven plan to work in partnership with existing agencies to coordinate many services under a single roof.
